Interim Chief Financial Officer Sought

June 24, 2026

The trustee body for the church (the PCC) is seeking an Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for a 12-month period, carrying out the PCC Treasurer’s duties under delegation from the Churchwardens, with two main objectives:

  1. To give the trustees the financial information, scrutiny and advice they need to lead the church’s financial strategy, business planning and major project finances with confidence.
  2. To recommend and (subject to PCC approval) implement changes to the arrangements for oversight and management of the St Laurence finances, and hand over the improved arrangements at the end of the 12-month period to a suitable person.

The Interim CFO will take over from the Churchwardens, who have been carrying the PCC Treasurer role in recent years.  They will work closely with the volunteer bookkeeper (qualified accountant), professional fundraiser and the bookkeeper for the St Laurence Restored Project (National Lottery Heritage Fund), which is anticipated to develop into a ~£2.2M delivery phase project in 2027.

The target starting date is no later than the beginning of September 2026, and earlier if possible.

The basis of remuneration is to be discussed.  It could be on a fully professional basis or might suit a retired or semi-retired finance professional willing to undertake this important time-limited task for a nominal fixed fee or honorarium.
