Join the St. Laurence heritage trail!

Residents of Stroud are being invited to explore the history, mysteries and hidden stories of St Laurence Church through a new heritage trail.
The trail, suitable for all ages, forms part of a public consultation that will help shape how the historic Grade II* listed church is interpreted in the future.
Visitors will be encouraged to explore the building, share what interests or intrigues them, and highlight the stories they would most like to hear more about.
Younger visitors can also take part in a “cheeky church mouse” trail as they discover the church’s features.
St Laurence Church in Stroud received initial support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund in November 2025 for the project St Laurence Restored: Protecting Stroud’s Historic Heart. Made possible thanks to National Lottery players, the scheme aims to carry out urgent repairs and secure the long-term future of the Grade II* listed building as a place of worship, community hub and key historic landmark.
A team of heritage interpretation consultants, archivists, a videographer and a community engagement officer will use public feedback from the trail to help shape future storytelling and interpretation inside the church.
‘St Laurence Church has been at the heart of Stroud’s story for generations, and we want the community to help us tell that story for the future,’ said Camilla Hale, Community Engagement Lead for St Laurence Restored project.
‘It’s free; just drop in and we would love to see people of all ages exploring the building and telling us what captures their imagination. Every question and every idea will help shape how we share the story of this remarkable place.’
The trail will be available inside the church and open to the public during normal opening times, as well as at services and events.
Special open sessions with the interpretation team will take place on:
- Wednesday 27 May (Half Term), 11am–3pm
- Saturday 6 June, 10am–1pm
